Salt Fork Arts Crafts Festival and Exhibition List

For more xxx years, local artist Martha Davis Rice has participated in the Salt Fork Arts & Crafts Festival in Cambridge.

Information technology is an almanac highlight for the pop painter, even subsequently suffering a debilitating stroke approximately seven years agone that left her unable to write, walk, talk or pigment.

Rice spent three weeks in the hospital and then half-dozen weeks in a nursing home while recuperating and rehabilitating.

"When you lot accept a brain injury, you tin can't experience it healing," said Rice. "You can feel other injuries healing, but not a brain injury. Instead, some (torso) parts work and some don't work.

"I was unable to paint for over a year. I had to learn to walk and talk again. But through the good Lord, he was able to heal me."

Two motivating factors for Rice were her husband, Cal, who recently turned 90, and her painting.

"I had to larn to bulldoze once again and so I could visit Cal in the hospital," recalled Rice. "I was in the motorcar i day thinking, 'how practice I practise this?' I took it one stride at a time, but I was able to exercise information technology and so I could visit him in the hospital and at the nursing domicile."

As for the painting, in that location are however some bad days merely overall it helps Rice, who has won numerous awards over the years for her beautiful piece of work.

"Sometimes you lot don't feel like doing anything," she said. "But when I pigment, I practice experience skilful nigh it. It is a motivation."

The route back to the festival held the second weekend of August was not like shooting fish in a barrel for Rice.

After being in and out of therapy while recovering from the stroke, she suffered from seizures and endured cervix and gall float surgeries, eye issues and cancer.

Rice is yet battling multiple ailments, but plans to attend the festival she believes is one of the best.

"The people are so friendly and they want to help y'all," said Rice of the Salt Fork Arts & Crafts Festival organizers. "Information technology has a hometown feel, and I live in town so information technology's special. It's like family out there and there are and then many skilful people. I love being a part of the show.

"It is one of the better shows there is out there," added Rice.

Moving to the Cambridge area in 1987, Rice did non exhibit her work right away at the festival. Only, information technology did not take her long to join the list of exhibitors and award winning artists.

In addition to winning numerous ribbons, Rice's paintings and her career have been featured in the Ohio Watercolor Gild's magazine and "The Spirit of Art The Splendor of Life - Artistic Talents in Ohio" by Muskingum University Art Professor Yan Sun and his wife, Hong Yin, assistant professor of fine art.

The 127-page volume writes about artists and fine art communities of Ohio. Fifteen artists including Rice are featured in the book available for purchase at the Yan Lord's day Art Museum & Gallery in Zanesville.

Through the years, Rice annually exhibited her work at four shows, only the impact of the stroke has limited her to 1 evidence.

Today, she only exhibits her paintings at the Salt Fork Arts & Crafts Festival.

She praises people associated with the festival and her neighbour exhibitors for helping her set up upwardly for the festival.

"I can't do it any more," said said. "Only, all of the people there accept been so proficient to me. The people have gotten to know me and they come up detect me. That'due south been very prissy."

Rice has overcome a lot of adversity to get i of the longest running exhibitors at the festival that is slated for Aug. 13-15 this year and she knows that's the work of her Lord and Savior.

"Never, never give upward," said Rice. "God is always with you, and he volition heal you."

The Salt Fork Arts & Crafts Festival is a juried festival that showcases high-quality art in a variety of mediums such as, painting, pottery, ceramics, cobweb art, metal work, jewelry, acrylics, mixed media, photography, and more.

Approximately 100 artists come up from all over the United States for the three-day event and surface area students are given the opportunity to brandish their work.
